Brewing filter coffee with KinGrinder K7
Coffee brewing for a software engineer quickly turns into an optimization problem: water temperature, grind size, coffee-to-water ratio, and pour timing all directly shape the final cup.
My daily setup:
- Dripper: glass cone dripper compatible with V60 01 paper filters
- Grinder: KinGrinder K7
- Scales with timer
Grind size is the most critical variable. The KinGrinder K7 offers 15-micron adjustment per click (100 clicks per full turn).
Since many community recipes use Comandante C40 clicks as a baseline, I use a simple formula: KinGrinder K7 clicks = Comandante clicks * 4
My standard 250 ml recipe:
- Dose: 15 g of coffee (1:16.7 ratio)
- Grind: 95-100 clicks on K7 for medium-light roast
- Water: 250 g at ~93C
Pour steps:
- 0:00 - 45 g water for blooming, wait 40 seconds.
- 0:40 - pour in gentle circles up to 150 g.
- 1:15 - pour in spirals up to 250 g.
- 1:25 - gentle swirl to level the coffee bed and let it draw down.
Total brew time is around 2:15 to 2:45. Gives a clean cup with bright sweetness and no unpleasant bitterness.
